Judges And The Beanstalk

Last October, I was honored to get acquainted with INics And started The conceptual design for Judges And The Beanstalk (" B-PT ") with INics. INics, a journalism and communication major, drew up this theme and designed the sketch of B-PT with his professional perspective. Then in the five months of co-creation process, gave me a lot of creative space and inspiration. This is a growing work, from a line draft at the very beginning to a series of works, from one style drawing to the final CG work.

The original intention of the creation of this work is to base on the development and change of information media, and the public opinion environment is more complex. In the "post-truth" landscape, the reverse news frequently appears... Under this social background, through this set of works, the author expresses his thoughts on "the situation that truth and logic are ignored in the process of information transmission on the Internet today, and emotions incite and dominate public opinion".

I admit, this is not an easy work to understand, and may in the end be a self-pleasing creation. Still, I hope someone will try to understand the message we're trying to send. For example, the growth of B-PT in three stages from the bottom up, from viewing to fermentation and then out of focus, is the process of news gradually deviating from the reality in the process of media transmission. For example, green apples from stage 1 to red apples from stage 3 imply the reversal of news and truth. For example, the sword in the stone metaphor of stage two suggests that everyone thinks their perception of events is correct, but it is not. For me, this creation is an attempt to break out of the comfort zone, the first time to try realistic three-dimensional production, the first time to break the usual style of creation... Early references include titles and games such as Blade Runner, City-17, Seryozha Parshakov's series, and so on.

INICS :

In fact, the starting point of creation of this project was very simple. I was taking a media criticism course at that time, which involved many professional concepts of news communication, such as media trial, post-media truth, false news, media violence and so on. These terms are not often known, and we are constantly caught up in the specific states to which these concepts refer. In addition, in the early days, the physical space we live in is limited, so the Internet occupies our mental space, and if we are not careful, we will encounter some kind of impact and be swept into some kind of flow of communication. I am not a person who likes to express myself in words. I prefer to find some abstract narrative methods to express my attitude. So I thought, Can you visualize something that's more conceptual? And choose a well-known story as a vehicle to present it? And so this project was born.

Judges and the Beanstalk is a milestone. It means time and growth, change and decision. It may also represent the first step for me to change design from an interest to a career. 7 years ago to make a promise to myself, at this moment I can finally give myself a affirmation. Finally, thank you, little R. Cooperating with you is the luckiest harvest of this creative journey. It is your spirit and tenacity that make Beanstalk shine brighter. In short, the creation will never stop, thinking will not stop, I hope this work not only bring good visual sense, but also bring you more space for thinking.

Judges And The Beanstalk

In this short video, you will see three stages of Judges And The Beanstalk.

Stage 1 「CIRCUSEE」As the event happens, news is watched, recorded, and disseminated.

Stage 2 「FERMENTATION」Events began to be interpreted, fermenting, media traffic was paramount, and personal emotions were added to capture the eye.

Stage 3 「LOSE FOCUS」The public receives fragmented information and pays more attention to the event than to the event itself, in order to misrepresent the situation and lose focus of public opinion.

KINGDOW OF THE GIANTS

PT2049, the reality system disordered, I mistakenly entered a barren land, so I recorded some insights temporarily stored here. There are many huge stone statues in this land, so I just call it for Kingdom of the Giants.

The land is filled with smoke, and the remains of giants are either standing or tilted. People often gather around the giant, examining it and evaluating it.

Usually treat the giants as binary, and the only words they use to evaluate it are usually yes or no, black or white. The huge body is defined by only one word.

The giant's body sinks here. The fruit of truth has been rotting for a long time.

Has the giant's end been predetermined? What about the truth in your eyes ？

ARRAY

Part I「FOCUS」 Part II「LOSE FOCUS」

Focalization and out-of-focus are the beginning and end of B-PT, and also the expression body from news to public opinion out of focus. Arrays are used to show the state of public focus and out of focus.
